About Nick
Nick Auer is a Brooklyn-based director, theatre-maker, sound designer, producer and experience designer. His work pursues new relationships between audiences and live performance. He is Co-Artistic Director and Co-Founder of the Brouhaha Theatre Project, with Max Pendergast. Brouhaha was named one of No Proscenium’s Immersive Theater Companies to Watch, and called “one of Brooklyn’s most promising theater companies” (Greenpointers). He directed all of Brouhaha’s productions: Tunnel Odyssey (Prospect Park), Wrestling with Lesbians (The Tank), R&D: a nightmare in three flowcharts (Dixon Place, The Keep), Heydays (Prospect Park), Soft Boy (The Tank), The Vicky Archives (The Tank). He also curated and produced a recurring experimental works-in-progress series Chaotic Good. He graduated from Bates College in 2015, with a BA in Theater with a focus in Directing. He has worked as Associate Director for Marianne Weems of the renowned multimedia theater company The Builders Association. He frequently collaborates and assists Brooke O’Harra, renowned experimental theater director and co-founder of Theatre of the Two-Headed Calf. He also was a creator and Experience Architect on the augmented-reality theatrical experience The Path of Beatrice. He works on many projects with Michael Counts and served as Associate Creative Director for Counts Projects. During the height of the pandemic, he co-produced a successful backyard concert and experimental performance series in Williamsburg called Live! At the Boscoe Barles Backyard Center for the Performing Arts.
Nick is also a professional production manager and stage manager. In addition to working in venues such as La Mama, HERE Arts, Abrons Arts Center, The Kitchen, The Bushwick Starr, and LCT3, he has worked extensively with acclaimed experiential dance-theater company Third Rail Projects: The Grand Paradise (Assistant Stage Manager), Ghost Light (First Assistant Stage Manager, Lincoln Center Theater), Behind The City (Asst. Production Manager, Asst. Stage Manager), and Then She Fell (Asst. Stage Manager Swing). He was as a Production Manager for Emursive at The McKittrick Hotel, home of Sleep No More and numerous other productions and large events; then he moved to support the build and opening of Emursive’s latest large-scale immersive experience Life & Trust.
